14.02.2025

Instructors from School of Foreign Languages, Lect. Ayşegül YILDIZ and Lect. Tuba İNAN, attended the "Syllabus Design in Practice" conference held on February 8, 2025, at Acıbadem University. The event was organized in collaboration with Oxford University Press (OUP) and was presented by OUP academic trainer Andrew Bosson.

The first event of an educational roadshow covering various universities in three major cities (Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir) was held in Istanbul. This event aimed to provide instructors invited from different universities with information on curriculum-based material development and syllabus design for foreign language programs while offering opportunities for hands-on practice.

The conference, consisting of four sessions, began with a theoretical discussion on syllabus and curriculum content design. In the second session, participants engaged in discussions and studies to identify the missing components of foreign language education programs that align with program objectives but lack adequate materials in the curriculum. The third session introduced various artificial intelligence tools that could help bridge these gaps. In the final session, academics from different universities worked on developing materials using AI tools to address the shortcomings they identified in their institutions' foreign language programs.

At the end of the sessions, representatives from different universities came together to share their work from the final session and exchange insights. This process created significant awareness of the fact that each program may have unique content and that material development efforts should be tailored accordingly.
