Only students who apply for transfer to the 1st year (1st semester) or 2nd year (3rd semester) of programs providing education in a foreign language with the central placement score (Additional Article-1) will take this exam.
Candidates who obtain a result of 80 and above in the Placement Exam will be eligible to take the 1st session of the Proficiency Exam on the same day (August 20, 2024) at 13.30 and the 2nd session (Writing Exam) and 3rd session (Speaking Exam) of the Proficiency Exam to be held on August 21, 2024. DBS results will be announced on the School of Foreign Languages website immediately following the exam, and the hall(s) in which these candidates will take the Proficiency Exam will be announced in the DBS results web announcement.
Candidates who apply to the other classes (3rd grade 5th semester or 4th grade 7th semester) of programs that provide education in a foreign language with the central placement score (Additional Article-1) or who apply within the scope of one of the other application types (inter-institutional/intra-institutional transfer, double major, minor) will not take the Placement Exam to be held on August 20, 2024 at 10:00 in the morning. For this reason, the names of these candidates are not included in the exam lists. These candidates will directly take the Proficiency Exam to be held on August 20, 2024 (13:30) and August 21, 2024.
English & Spanish & Arabic Proficiency Exam (IMU-YS)
Exam Venue: Istanbul Medeniyet University Tuzla/Orhanlı Campus, School of Foreign Languages Building
*In the 3rd session, each student will take the Speaking Exam at the appointment time determined for them.
The passing grade for the Proficiency Exam is 70 (including 69.5) for undergraduate programs in English or Arabic and for Spanish Language and Literature programs. For candidates applying for transfer to the English Language Teaching Department, the passing grade is 80 (including 79.5).

This exam will be taken by
- candidate students who apply for transfer to the 1st or 2nd grade with a central placement score (Additional Article-1) and those who receive a DBS score of 80 or above,
- candidate students who apply for transfer to the other grades with a central placement score (Additional Article-1),
- all candidates who apply within the scope of one of the other application types (inter-institutional/intra-institutional transfer, double major, minor).
Important Reminders About Exams
- Our students must be present in the exam halls on the specified dates and times.
- Since there will be an identity check during the exams, we kindly ask you to bring your Turkish Republic ID (or valid passport / TRNC ID Card) with you.
- Since students who are late will not be allowed into the exams, we kindly request our students to show the necessary sensitivity and be present in the school building at least half an hour before the exam time in order to prevent possible transportation problems and delays. - The School of Foreign Languages website should be followed regularly for all announcements to be made during the exam process.
